Step-out of the month for June 2024: Elfi

The Step-out for June is ELFI a beautiful and versatile dancing tangle deconstructed by Simone Menzel CZT#23 from Germany, also known as SimTangle.

Below Simone tells us more about her passion for Zentangle and her new tangle ELFI:

"Zentangle has been my favorite hobby for 10 years and has become an integral part of my life: in daily tangles, in personal meetings with other CZTs, but also online - I am always happy to meet other Zentangle enthusiasts.

In my hometown of Dresden, I have been giving regular Zentangle courses with a wide variety of topics since 2017. In 2022 I launched the SimTangle Session - a monthly online offer via Zoom. Anyone interested is welcome to contact me - everyone can get involved. Details can be found on my website.

ELFI is my newest pattern, it “flowed out of my pen” in a very playful way in March 2024. I tried out new inks, indulged in colours and drew a few lines on a piece of paper without thinking. And suddenly I saw a series of happily floating figures, somewhat reminiscent of dancing elves.

Then everything developed very quickly: a few tiles were drawn, a step-out was created… then I came up with the idea of ​​drawing Elfi in a grid, doubling it, mirroring it, seeing it as a fragment. I am often amazed at how many possibilities arise with very simple basic structures."
